About Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation
The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation is an independent and non-partisan Canadian charity, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation was established in 2001 as a living memorial to the former Prime Minister by his family, friends, and colleagues.
By offering a significant yearly allocation for research and travel, the award encourages the multidisciplinary study and innovative fieldwork by allowing the Scholars to interact directly with the many populations that can further their research.
Through available financial aid, the Scholarship also provides the chance to network with a remarkable group of thought leaders and dedicated individuals in every area of the social sciences and humanities, take part in Foundation-sponsored events, and host their own workshops.
What are the benefits of Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Scholarship
The scholarship provides:
- Up to $40,000 per year for the duration of three years to cover tuition and other
valuable living expenses.
- It also offers opportunity to interact with exceptional community of leaders and individuals who are committed in the field of social sciences and humanities
- Up to $20,000 per year for the three years (as research and travel allowance)
- Scholars are paired with a distinguished Trudeau Mentor that is selected by the foundation.
- Scholars can also hold their own workshop with available financial support.
Trudeau Scholarships and Fellowships Eligibility
To be eligible for the Pierre Elliot Trudeau scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must already be accepted into year one or two of a full doctoral program, and expected to complete your doctoral studies in 2026 or later.
- Your field of study must relate to at least one of the foundations four themes: Human Right and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship, Canada and the World, People and their Natural Environment.
- Your field of study must be broadly related to the humanities or human sciences of relevance to the future of Canada.
- Must be a Canadian citizen studying at a Canadian or foreign institution, or a non-Canadian (permanent resident or Canadian foreign national) enrolled in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution.
How to Apply for Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Scholarship
Step 1: Learn about your university’s internal selection process.
Step 2: Register for an account on the Foundation’s application portal.
Step 3: Fill out the application form.
Step 4: Get a recommendation letter, enter the name and email address of your two referees and an email will be sent to them.
Step 5: Contact your university informing them of your application.
Step 6: PETF Selection Process: All completed applications will go through a rigorous selection process and shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
